Good tool but not calibrated well

2

This brand new TM-1 is built well but someone fell asleep in the calibration department in Park tool. The spoke meter reading was 25kg/f higher than the actual load on the spoke. Fortunately I was able to build a calibration device and recalibrated the tool.

A great addition to any bike nerd. If you are OCD about your wheel builds, a must-have.

Good enough for my purposes

Just used it this week while truing my mavic crossride 29 disc. Very easy to use. Scale was irrelevant as I could not find relevant data on my wheels and their spokes. I used the scale as a reference in comparison to the other spokes to make sure I was in range. For a non professional mechanic like me and the occasional use - great.

Brilliant

If you build wheels, get one of these! Makes it so easy to get even spoke tension and avoid breakages. One of my bikes has an electric hub motor and suffered from irregular spoke breakaages - since I evened up spoke tension in the new wheel, I've had no breakages. I spend a bit of time doing it, but you can get all the tensions on one side even, with a true wheel. It much more reliable for the DIYer, than tensioning to the right "ping"!

Pure Awesomeness

If you build you own wheels you need one! I was quite surprised at the difference in some of my spokes tension. I'd not be without one now!

A very handy addition to a cyclists toolbox. A wheel with well tensioned and balanced spokes will give optimal performance and reliability. This easy to use device allows you to get a reasonable idea as to the level of tension in wheel spokes and hence to asses whether adjustment is required. 90-100 KGF is a widely quoted figure for spoke tension and the conversion table supplied with the tool allows the user to establish if their spokes are correctly tensioned. It will also confirm if all spokes have similar tension, differences in spoke tension leads to stress points within the structure of the wheel which will affect performance and reduce life. If you have aspirations to build your own wheels or to optimise the wheels you currently own then such a tool will help. As with many other Park products this tool is a good compromise between cost and performance. More accurate tensiometers are available and I am sure at least as easy to use, but you'd need to be a really serious wheel builder or mechanic to justify the additional hundreds of pounds they cost.

My fav tensionmeter

Simply does all types of spokes and comes with a handy (and well researched table)...spoke tension is a fickle thing...and that this tool is at least relatively simple and usable; ticks all my boxes over it's much more expensive rivals
