good budget tire

I'm no tire snob - I try to pay <$30 for my rubber. These seem to have done well by me. I do wait till they are on sale, but then they seem like a great deal. No big issues. I've tried the various less expensive Vittoria tires too, not much difference in wear/performance at least to me. ( I'm getting about 1.5K miles out of the rear tire...roughly )

Two flats

2

Less than 50 miles on Chicago streets, two flats within a week, one on each tire. Flat #1 (front) was a tiny piece of glass which went straight through the tire. Flat #2 (rear) was a light-weight office staple, straight through the tire.

Both were slow leaks, not immediate due to the tiny size of the objects that easily permeated the surface of these tires. In both cases I returned to my bike to find a complete flat, and then discovered the cause upon changing the tube.

Not really sure what to say about these tires. i thought they were an inexpensive substitute for the far more expensive Continental line (Gatorskins, 4-season, etc). But, the flats, and the causes of the flats, say otherwise.

I can't imagine riding 10,000 miles (as a reviewer on this thread said) without a flat, on any bike, any tire, any tube, or any surface, in any temperature - sorry, I simply don't buy it - let alone on these tires, which don't hold up to office staples.

Good tires

I use them as training tires but they are suitable for racing. Those are resistant but a little bit slippery in wet condition. Hard to beat for the price...

Surprisingly good for the price

I bought these as backup tyres but I ended up using them on my city bike for the summer and they've held up surprisingly well. No punctures thus far, and while they don't feel as fast as a proper racing tyre, they're a fine training tyre.

Great tire

4

I bought a cx bike as my first venture into road biking so I needed to replace the stock rubber from the 30mm tires that were on there. I got these because of the good previous reviews and they were on sale, got a set for around $30 delivered.

I've ridden about 500 miles on them so far and they have been great. Roll nicely, no punctures yet (I had a pinch flat but that was my fault) and they come in different colors (I got the yellows to match the frame). I took them on a crushed limestone trail and didn't have a problem. If you're looking for a budget tire to train/beat on, I would highly recommend these and packaging seems to indicate that they are still produced in France, since some people were worried about them moving their production to the east. I could be wrong there though.

Adding more to first review

After a good spring to summer season.

This tyre has had no punctures. I have enjoyed some off road where the Swiss Mountains met tracks that were not full paved or tarmacked. It has never had punctures, I am overly impressed.

However, after doing a few others, adding it to my other bikes. I found a great means to fit these tyres.

1. Use baby talc powder on the inner tubes. Place them in first fully talc'd up. This then aided the facilitation of new tyre to the rim.
2. Problem solved.

Great value for money tyre that seems to last, last and outlast whilst staying reliable. Puncture resistance with enough grip.

Nice alternative

Bought a pair of these to replace my Pro 3's which get nicked easily. Although these are a tad heavier, I also saved quite a bit too. Various colors to choose from, if you're into that type of thing.

Great All Around Tire

4

You can't beat the Lithion for cost versus performance. Long lasting but suitable for racing. The best of both worlds. The last set I had wore to the cords and a few years with no issues.

Awesome tire

4

I switched to these after wearing out my Michelin Krylion Carbon's and I'm in love with them for an affordable race/training tire. They look awesome, perform really well and seem to have good flat protection. Mounting them was a little bit challenging because they the bead kept slipping off of the rim but it wasn't too hard to do and didn't cause too much of a hassle for me so it's not a deal breaker. Overall they can't be beaten for performance to price.
