I purchased the Continental Ultra Race Clincher Road Tyre as a Spring tyre to replace my Specialized Armadillo tyres (440 grams each) which I run through the winter. After one week of commuting (50 miles total), I had had three punctures from sharp stones working their way through the tyre. I switched back to the Specialized tyre's until summer arrived. I've now found that one tyre has a side to side wobble in it. This isn't because it's not seated right, I've remounted it and always there is the wobble. And, there is a small hole/slit right through the tyre which causes a bulge and I worry will fail in one big bang. Conclusion: Gatorskins are better training/commuting tires. 4000S's are better race tires. The Ultra Race's just seem to wear too fast and structurally fail. I'm considering buying one more to replace the damaged one, but it's a tough call given how few miles (maybe up to 250 now) I've had from them.Report this review
I'm 140lbs , 5'7". These came with my 2012 Scott CR1 Pro. Unmounted to compare against Michie Pro4's. Noticed immediately the very thin almost non-existent sidewall. More to follow.
Went on a spin w/fronts inflated to 88lb, rears 92. Rubber tacky with good grip, climbs well no loss of traction. Taking a specific downhill curve @ 25-28 MPH sidewalls give in leaving an uneasy feeling in my stomach. Went home and inspected tires. Rear showed 1/4" slight wear off center. Not good in my books.
Next day inflated to 92/96 and went out for a spin. Slight loss of traction on climbs. Same sidewall flex as the day b4. Went home and moved wheelset to Cervelo S5. Same results; OK straight line tire, but not for high speed curves. Rubber thickness indicates minimum wear life. Chinzed on sidewall rubber/threads to save weight. Decent buy for putt-putt low speed training.
These tires came stock on my first road bike. While I have nothing to compare them to I have not had a single flat. I have put about 2000k and have noticed some squaring of the rear tire. I would like to buy something different this next go around just for comparison.Report this review
Well these came on my new scott foil 40 and I had a puncture after the 5 time out, my friend also bought a Scott also with these and he had a puncture within 3 weeks. I'd have to say that these are prone to punctures! Apart from that great tyres.Report this review
great tire, very sticky, and low rolling resistanceReport this review
awesome affordable tires that last and rolls great for training. Good puncture resistance and holds good psi. I use these tires on my training bikesReport this review
In my 30 years of riding and racing, I have decided that Continental tires are the only "premium" clincher that is really worth the premium price. I usually get the GP 4000S or the 24mm Grand Prix, but I decided to try these just to save a little money.
These are functionally indistinguishable (by me) from the top of the line, so I will be buying more. I also like the 25mm width for a bit of a more connected road feel.
I would take ANY MODEL Conti over any other brand. These are an excellent Conti race/training tire.
Awesome tyre - pretty rugged - I have used them for a few months and I have not had one puncture on my hybrid bike - definitely not a race or training tyre - more of a commuter, but still no loss in speed or anythingReport this review
These tires came stock on my bike. Very quick and sticky in the turns. They look like higher end race tires. Durability, however can be a bit of an issue. At about 500 miles I had a sidewall blowout on the rear tire, and the relatively soft rubber can be prone to cuts and pick up debris if your riding on bad roads. To be fair I was riding on particularly terrible Mississippi backroads exploring new routes, and I don't think an tire would have fared much better. I will likely buy again as a I really like the feel, speed, and ride quality of these tires, and they are tough to pass up at PBK prices. A no-brainer if your usual routes are clean roads.Report this review
A great training tire. This tire provides a race tire like feel but at considerably cheaper price than the GP4000. They're comfortable, fast, and great in the turns.Report this review
