Gumby Reviews A530 Pedals

Good when used with SPD Cleats and they provide a significant amount of lateral float compared to my first generation SPD pedals from 1990. Not so good with street shoes or athletic shoes. Such footwear tends to roll or slip over the outer edge putting strain on your knees. An outer edge "kick up" similar to old quill style pedals would have been more useful to keep your feet in position. I will only use the non-cleated platform side in an emergency when I am without my cleated shoes.

Great Touring Pedals

5

Great for beginners whom are starting on the "clipless journey" when still doubting between clipless or none. This is also plenty of use when you are not going for a crazy ride; wearing regular shoes and maybe drop in at a friend's place. Clipping in and out felt great, wasn't really a problem finding the clip, or even if I do find the opposite side when riding, I can still get up to speed with the flat pedal and then switch to the clip. The set itself may be slightly heavy with 383g a pair, but what's there to complain? You knew that you aren't going into races anyways when you purchase these. They are great, trust me.

Great for touring - light and easy to use with spds for the day trip or with trainers / shoes / flops for the evening

First time user Shimano A530 SPD Touring Pedals

I've been riding a hybrid bike for quite a while, but never tried clipless pedals until recently. These are great. I love the secure feeling that you get, especially when standing up and pedaling. And, when I'm a bit tired from a long ride, I really notice that the "pulling" helps ease the fatigue in my quads. The A530s are great because they have clips on one side for long rides and are flat on the other side - perfect for a short trip to the market or around the neighborhood without using the cleats on the shoes. I would definitely recommend these for anyone who rides more than 20 miles at a stretch.

Good entry level

Good entry level spd pedals. Slippery when wet but once you get clip on shoes, it works. Tension are easily adjusted.

Great entry level SPD pedals

I have these on my commuter and they were my first taste of cleated pedals. They were a great way to get used to it and be able to ride the bike in regular shoes.

Only negative is that if it is raining the flat side can be a little slippery when compared to pedals with with teeth.

Good beginner pedals

Bought these before I committed to using cycling shoes. Unfortunately these are only SPD and not SPD-SL, so that severely limits the selection of road shoes one can use. Platform side is good for quick trips.
