Almost but not quite
3Shimano SPuD pedals have a lot going for them. For one thing, the mountain bike soles of the shoes allow you to put a foot down almost anywhere without the fear of slipping and falling. The problem on long rides is the small area of shoe they press against. Unless you have a top quality shoe the sole will flex and give you a sore spot on your foot. I've tried the copies from various companies but most of them fall pretty short of the original. One company's product would loosen the mechanism over time and then the parts would get lost on the road and you'd be stuck trying to ride a pedal you couldn't clip into. These touring pedals are almost there. They have a wider base so that you can use lace-up shoes. But in order to lighten them they have cleat retainers only on one side of the pedals and as we all know, trying to take off from a stop light and watch traffic at the same time you'll invariably kick the pedal wrong and flip it upside down and have trouble getting across the intersection and flipping the pedal around and clipping in. Isn't that why we aren't using Look pedals? So most people end up using the mountain SPuDs that are double sided. Now if Shimano were to make the touring pedals double sided............

Good pedal for training bike
4I bought these pedals for my training bike because I prefer to use MTB cycling shoes for my commuting and training bikes, like using MTB shoes to walk around safely when off my commuting and training bikes. These pedals are fairly light, have smooth bearings, well made and seem durable even though the locking sleeve nuts are plastic. Convenient to have a set of MTB shoes equipped with the same shimano cleats for both types of bikes, my commuting bike has double sided M540 pedals for fast entry during rush hour commutes. I do have a pair of full carbon road shoes for use with my titanium race bike which is equipped with dura ace road pedals for ultimate in performance.

5I have a clipless set up on my MTB and needed SPD pedals that would work well on a roadie. First it has a platform for more weight distribution. And secondly you can only clip out of it on one side which is a bonus.

Very nice design
4These pedals perform very well. I purchased them for my old mountain bike that I now solely ride on the road (for family rides). They look great and are lighter weight than they look. In all, 4 stars for another quality product from Shimano.

spd for road

Bought these for my road bike as I don't like the conventional road bike cleats.
The installation was easy and tension adjustment was a breeze. The only problem was... it flips upside down after disengaging.. I got used to flipping it upwards without looking.
Solid construction and well made.
