A back pocket essential

This jacket is an essential for just about any road bike rider. Either to protect you from the wind in a mountain downhill or to prevent you getting wet when you weren't expecting it. The perfect occasional use jacket. Even the best breathable jackets tend to collect condensation - in cold weather, the outer layer is too cold and forces condensation, and in warm weather, you're generating too much sweat. They also have to have a plastic membrane and that tends to be inflexible and flap around in an unaerodynamic way if the jacket happens not to fit perfectly. So, better not to wear one unless you really have to. Instead, bring this lightweight jacket along and wear it when you need to. This jacket is very light, very thin and of course not robust at all, but it does give you that extra protection layer when you need it. You don't want a big heavy jacket in your jersey pocket, this is truly unnoticable in a back jersey pocket and travels with me everywhere. Like other reviewers, best to roll this loosely rather than jam it into its tennis ball sized carry pouch, as this is a better fit for a normal bike jersey pocket. It is not particularly cheap, but it is very well made and seems to survive a wash in the machine without any problem. Fit is continental so order accordingly. Yes there are other jackets, but this one is a compulsory purchase. You might not use it much, but when you do, you'll be glad you bought it along!

Hot pack 5

I ordered this after having read several reviews. Ordering was easy, however I fell into the trap of forgetting that it is Italian sizing, and consequently did not fit. But quality, and speed of delivery was outstanding, as was the product itself. I will be much more careful in future.

Sportful Hot Pack 5 jacket does its job well - it is super featherlight and packs away to a fist sized package which you hardly notice in your pocket. Went on a 75 mile winter ride and quickly realised I got my clothing slightly wrong and was feeling chilled, so popped on the hot pack and hey bingo, just enough to wind protection to take me into the comfort zone. It seems breathable and I did not sweat in it, even up a serious climb. Tailored fit worked for me, even over a winter jersey (a tadge tight over winter layers, but it would be perfect over summer wear.). I am 5ft 6 and slim, and ordered a size SMALL. It is smart looking and doesnt flap or inflate like a parachute like some other folding garment in my collection. I only gave it 3 stars because it felt it was expensive for what it is, and it is so very light weight in construction. However, it s not intended for continual use - as an effective, tailored, emergency warmer for keeping in your back pocket, I can recommend it.

Best packable waterproof so far

I have had a few packable waterproofs since I started road riding about 10 years ago. This is the best (and most expensive) so far - fully waterproof, breathable, great fit, highly visible in white color and packs down very well. Thumb loops/holes are good and enable a great fit - especially when using this jacket for long alpine descents - no more noisy / flappy rides. It packs to about the size of tennis ball in its own bag, but I usually roll it to fit in a jersey pocket. Like other reviewers, I had to size up from my usual medium to a large. Worth the money and essential for most rides! Highly recommended.
