Fantatic case. Easy to pack and piece of mind knowing you bike is safe. Fits flat in the back of a focus size car with the seats folded down.
I have used this box 3 times now for 2 European trips and a transatlantic flight. Each time the bike has emerged unscathed The box has only suffered some scuffing and one bent locking mechanism but is still functional. The bike is relatively easy to pack away and set up. The box is lightweight so you can store some cycle stuff in it without weight penalty if your bike is light enough. My only criticism is poor finishing quality. The press studs on some of the internal padding do not attach, the washer eyelets protecting the box lid when the wheels are attached came off almost immediately.. In addition some of the advertised strapping was not included So I had to improvise. Just make sure you order it in time to check It properly before you need it.
After owning a Scicon Bike Box for 11 years with total satisfaction I bought a new one for my latest trips as the old case was cracked at the wheels (having been repaired once already) and the wheels needed replacement again as well. The case is still robust and now in black rather than grey of the old one. The wheel mouldings are still too tight unless the tyres are fully deflated (I have 700 x 23 on my S Works Tarmac). Whilst a solid box still it remains very heavy if you are flying. Unbelievably it is now only fitted with 2 straps at the top to hold the frame secure. The old one had a strap at the bottom as well and the 3 straps held the frame beautifully. It now means there is nothing to stop the frame moving inside the box. Luggage handlers will place the box any which way up!. Scicon seem to try and compensate for this by supplying some padded wheel covers with elastic straps to stop the frame hitting the wheels. Since the wheels are tight in the enclosures you cannot fit the covers until the wheels are in place which means you cannot access the quick releases without putting your hand inside the covers - a Mickey Mouse arrangement! This all needs correcting after which it will be a great box again. Disappointing. Have they ever used the new box?
Own my bike for long time and have many triathlon starts per year. I've traveled with many different bike cases, but the best of all is Scicon and as you should know that aerotech evo is the most beautiful and strong choice for you to feel calm during the trip and not to worry about your carbon brother. I found the best price on probikekit.co.uk. At last i have my own new super scicon aerotech evolution bike box! Thanks for rapid shipping!
Looks good easy to pack, a little heavy, watch the excess baggage charges. Purchased December 13 three tips abroad, written off on third trip, wheel on underside through casing, no doubt down to baggage handlers. Full refund by airline however I don't know anyone who owns this case hasn't suffered the same fate. Will I buy another NO.
This is best available bike case. Convenient and reliable. Gives possibility to pack your bike during 10 minutes. But you have to train first.
I've had this case for over 5 years and it's still as good as new. A few scuffs on the outside, where it's obviously been mishandled by the luggage staff, but no dents or scratches. My bike has been protected on many trips overseas. This is a must buy if you want the ultimate protection for your bike. The only issue I have with it are the wheels...they're made of really soft rubber and only last 2-3 trips before I have to buy replacement ones. Probably due to me wheeling it over car parks and not soft surfaces outside of the Airport terminal. Therefore I'd recommend putting it on a trolley if you go over anything uneven or rough.
First the quality.... I was nervous about trusting my pride and joy to this case for it's first aircraft journey. I needn't have worried. The case is sturdy when closed up and holds the bike securely in place thanks to pull tight straps attaching the frame to the top of the case. The first time you try to fit your bike in, it might take you a while but after watching the video on YouTube (other online video sources are available) and practicing a few times, it now takes around 5-10 minutes to accomplish. There's a handly little bag inside to store your saddle and pedals, I found the best way to keep it secure inside the case was to wedge it into the bottle cages and then use a velcro tie down on it. Although there is foam padding only on one side (the box base for want of a better description), the wheel covers help protect the other side of the frame (errr, the box lid). You can always throw some bubble wrap in if you're not sure. Personally, I added extra padding between the seat post and the top of the case, used Scicon's own derailleur, crank, fork and shifter pads along with a pair of reinforced transit skewers. Probably a whole load of overkill. Some other boxes come with a short pole that gives extra rigidity to the base and lid, the box does not have one but I din't get the feeling that it really needed it either. Depending on where you look, the box can be listed at anywhere between 12 and 12.7kg when empty. Personally, I think it's nearer the lower end as when loaded my bike tipped the scales at somewhere around 19kg. Something to bear in mind though if your airline has a strict weight limit. Dragging it around when loaded is not so bad, the wheels seem durable and turn freely. It's no harder to drive than the average shopping trolley. Although the TSA locks mean that you are allowed to lock it on a trans atlantic flight, probably just as importantly, they give the whole fastening mechanism a feel of strength and security. Then the price..... It is a little on the pricey side but, arguably you get what you pay for. Finding it at a discounted rate will obviously make you happier. What price for the peace of mind of knowing that your bike is travelling secure.
Was a bit nervous about putting the precious one on a plane, and after much searching chose this box. Service was excellent as ever from ProBike - there the next day. Box is great - fits the 62cm frame (tightly) but padding i great and the comments are strong and user friendly. Would highly recommend.
This case is probably the ultimate in secure cycle transport. Quality and practicality are evident in every part of its assembly. You feel confident that your bike will arrive at its destination intact. The down side is its heavy and expensive. Be careful what you pack with your bike a track pump and a few tools could put you over many airlines weight limits. At £10-£20 a kilo charged for exceeding their weight limit it could work out expensive transport.
