In many ways, the Fulcrum Racing 3 C17 clincher wheelset is a model example of the ultimate mid-range wheelset for a road bike– reliable, robust and responsive. Equally at home on your winter training ride or weekend bike packing adventure.
While weighing just 1560 grams, the Fulcrum Racing 3 C17 clincher wheelset is certainly no slouch on the climbs. However, despite this relatively lightweight construction, thanks to the milled alloy rim, this wheelset can also boast increased strength and durability compared with other wheelsets in its class. The 25mm front rim height improves handling in crosswinds and further reduces weight, while the slightly deeper 30mm rear rim improves wheel stiffness, power transfer and rider efficiency. If you plan on using your Racing 3's for winter training, then the oversized 22.5mm rim width means you can run larger tyres to improve grip on wet roads.
Laced to these rims are a set of quality, high flange alloy hubs which are constructed with a cup and cone, steel ball-bearing system to reduce friction and allow for easy adjustability and serviceability. Combined with the stiff alloy rim, the high hub flanges create a wheelset that is 9% torsionally stiffer than a standard hub. Truly a wheelset designed to deliver when you put the hammer down. While this wheelset is undoubtedly stiff, importantly, comfort hasn't been sacrificed. The steel bladed spokes offer a vast improvement to rider comfort and are easy and economical to replace should any unforeseen potholes cause any damage.

I've done a variety of rides now and very happy with these wheels. Had a few different wheelsets around this price point over the years and so far I'd say these are the best - very smooth bearings, stiff & responsive especially climbing. Freehub is unusually quiet which I like, and unlike some other manufacturer's tubeless ready rims you can actually get the tyres on with a sensible amount of effort. On paper, they are 120g heavier than the set they reaplaced, but climb measurably faster, presumably due to being stiffer. Only criticism would be the decals are just stickers - no problem so far, but I can't imagine they will be very durable.
purchased these wheels a couple of weeks ago, excellent Rolling and a smooth ride very light too, with a good ser of bearings on them you won't be disappointed.
Rear wheel spokes can carve a groove in the hub when climbing. This makes it impossible to repair without getting a new hub. :( The wheels were great until I had to put some torque on the rear wheel while riding a granfondo. One of the spoke slipped in its sleeve on the back wheel. It carved its way in the aluminum hub. Impossible to repair.
An Amazing Wheelset
I’ve always preferred Fulcrum wheels and this 2020 Racing 3 has got to be the best rim brake clincher out there regardless of cost. They ride superbly, roll up the climbs and are stable In cross-winds, plus they look good, really good.
I have tried countless wheels including Mavic, American Classic, Williams, Dura Ace, Easton, and Rolf. These are some of the best "all around" wheels I have owned. Super strong (I am 200+) with no flex when I mash the pedals, yet they are light enough to climb and the silent hub makes riding a pleasure.
