Great training aid once you get used to them

Having never used a turbo or rollers I spent ages trying to decide which one to go for and read many reviews about the benefits of each one. I finally decided to go for the rollers as they apparently improve your balance, cadence, overall cycling performance/technique when on the road and being relatively new to cycling these were all areas I wanted to improve on. They arrived super quick after placing the order (thanks PBK!), and the set up was really easy. I'd watched many scary videos of people's first attempts that ended badly but also found a few with tips for first timers which I think helped me get used to them. My first attempt lasted about 20 minutes positioned in a doorway (highly recommended!) and I spent the whole time thinking that I was never ever going to get used to them and would never be able to get both hands on the handlebars. I set a good hour aside for the 2nd attempt and again spent ages gripping the doorway but gradually managed to get both hands on the handlebars and from then on I haven't looked back. These rollers are brilliant, I've got nothing to compare them with but I think they're fairly quiet, you could watch TV if you wanted to without the volume being too loud. It is possible to have a good workout on these rollers and to just use your gears for different resistance levels. I found it's actually easier to keep your balance the faster you go and the higher the cadence. Another good tip is to fix your eyes on a spot about 4-5 + meters ahead. After just one session on the rollers I could tell the next time I went out on the road that my balance had improved so I'm looking forward to seeing how my riding technique and performance improves with continued use. They are easy to fold away (watch your fingers!), pretty sturdy and overall well-made although I have wondered how tough the plastic frame is - time will tell. The only negative comment I have is that I found the step to help you mount and dismount wasn't very big as I felt I needed something a little higher and bigger in case of a major wobble and needed to unclip and put my foot down quickly. I think it's also worth mentioning that another reason I went for the rollers over a turbo trainer was I'd read that with a turbo an indoor trainer wheel/tyre is needed and I didn't want the added inconvenience or expense of having to do this. However I've now found out that an indoor trainer wheel/tyre is also needed for rollers as well as about 30 minutes after I next put air in my tyres after spending 1 hour and 15 minutes on the rollers the inner tube exploded and forced the tyre to come out of the rim. I can only assume this is due to the friction and heat that built up during the time on the rollers. Bit of a long review but hope it helps you decide to buy these, they're great!
