Everything Castelli does is somehow designed to make you faster. Think of this as your go-fast-in-July jacket. We didn’t make it aero, so it’s not going to help you win the club training rides in January. What we did is include every creature comfort to help you get in as much training as you can stand over the winter. It’s cut a little looser than our race pieces. The full Gore® Windstopper® construction seals out the cold while offering the best available breathability, although we did add chest ventilation zips for when you need even more. We’ve brought new wrist and neck closures to improve these difficult areas, and you get three big pockets plus a zippered chest pocket.

First, the sizing. If you are familiar with Castelli sizings you will know that they are small to size. This jacket is a wee bit more generous. I bought my usual size and there is room for a couple of base layers, one of which could be polartec power dry if it was exceptionally cold. I'm a 40" chest and bought an XL. The jacket fits so well that I forget that I'm wearing it, thanks in part to the way that the sleeves attached to the body. The chest pocket is roomy and easily accommodates a smartphone plus other bits pieces. In temperatures of 4 degrees C I was comfortable with a lightweight base layer. At 6 C I had to open the front vents when climbing. At around freezing I anticipate a warmer base layer such as power dry will be needed. The neck, when fastened leaves room for a neck warmer and a high neck base layer. The rear pockets are a tight fit for a waterproof (race cape) and this is my only criticism. Allegedly I don't need the waterproof though, as the jacket is pretty much waterproof on its own. I haven't had chance to try this yet.
