This is hands down the best item of cycle clothing I have owned. I've worn it for two rides now, both around 5c and one in persistent heavy rain. On both occasions I wore it with just a t-shirt underneath and was perfectly warm. On the wet ride, we had 2 hours of heavy rain and although I eventually got wet, I wasn't cold. This was perfectly noticeable the moment I got home and when I removed the jacket I felt cold air hit me. It has an extra piece of material, like a flap you can pull down to protect your bottom in the rain too. I have a Gabba too, which I love, but that too feels more rigid and is less comfy. The only negatives are that I'd have loved a zip pocket. I'm 5'10" and 15 stone and the XXL fits perfectly.
I bought this to replace my no-longer-waterproof commuting jacket. I wouldn't normally spend this amount on an item of clothing but thought that it's probably about time I invested in a good jacket! I looked at the Castelli Gabba too and found that is it highly comparable with the Sportful Fiandre but slightly better looking and a great price on this site. Warmth: You will not get cold in this! I tried in out at in 10c weather with a just a SS jersey underneath and was roasting. I had to put it away for a few weeks until the temparature dipped. I've ridden it in zero temperatures and still felt nothing, and haven't yet needed to put a thermal underneath. I think this jacket will be able to cope with anything British winter has to throw at it. The high neck is a smart addition to keeping off the chill. Waterproofness: I've ridden this for a few hours in the rain and found it fine. The water doesn't bounce off it after a while, but neither does it get you soaked. I think it works like a wetsuit and keeps you warm. Fit: This is a eurofit for sure. Sportful owns Castelli, so think 'mountain goat'. I'm 6ft1 and about 82kg. I opted for the XL and it fits like a glove. It is slim fitting so best to go up a size if you're sporting a beer belly ;) Negatives? None so far. It's been great and I think it'll be my favourite item for a long time.
