The Privateer™ R features a nylon and rubber co-molded outsole for durability and improved grip on rocks or roots. The reinforced toe box boasts a rubber toe-guard for improved durability yet comfort reigns supreme with a supple microfiber upper, two straps and a micro-ratcheting buckle. Those features, combined with the stiff and efficient nylon outsole, create a shoe that rivals the performance of more expensive composite designs. Other highlights include aggressive lugs for improved traction, toe spike compatibility and a supportive EVA footbed with Aegis® anti-microbial treatment.
AEGIS ® MICROBE SHIELD
The Aegis Microbe Shield is an anti-microbial barrier that is permanently bonded with the fabric. It uses the power of a tiny positive electrical charge to inhibit the presence of odour-causing microbes that can cause odour, discolouring or fading, so your shoes stay fresh and odour-free.

Great shoe. I'm using them for cyclocross, but is also being used for all round winter riding. Stiff sole, not huge difference in the power I can put down on the road between this and my carbon soled diadorras. Comfy to walk about in, haven't tried them with the toe spikes in (don't come with). Pretty true to size, my diadoras are 45 and slightly too big without insoles, I bought 45 in the giros and there spot on (enough room for winter socks, whilst enough adjustment with the Velcro to wear summer socks). If ur feet are wide at the front it would be worth trying the high volume version, I've never thought of my feet at wide but these are quite snug around the widest point of my foot. All round banging shoes.
