adidas Men's Supernova Running Shoes - Core Black

Having put nearly 50km (<6 min/km pace) on the Supernova Glide 9s in the last week, I can report that I am enjoying the new ride. As a heel striker, I have favoured a softer ride in part to spare my knee and hip joints some of the impact. Immediately noticeable with this shoe is the fast but smooth transition from heel to toe that the mid-sole delivers, which presumably is due to a single mid-sole material throughout the length of the shoe. I initially had some doubts about the shoes stability in corners due to the rather soft mesh upper, doubts which were quickly disproved. In fact I find these shoes oddly more confident in corners than any others I've run in, a pleasant surprise. One criticism I have of the caged/lace design over the mid-foot is how difficult this design makes achieving comfortable lacing. I have tried numerous lacing configurations with various outcomes. In the end I have learned that the shoe needs to be laced fairly loosely to avoid the plastic cage placing pressure at critical points on top of my foot. The design really needs re-thinking but can be worked with and my suggestion is to try loose lacing. In terms of grip and traction, I can't fault it. I have yet to take them out on a wet road but the in the dry on roads, footpaths and the odd section of dirt they've been perfect. I wear a US10.5 and have a normal arch. The support offered by the shoe feels just right under my foot. The toe box is nice and high, higher than any other shoe I've worn recently. The Supernova Glide 9 is proving itself a comfortable and confident shoe for my runs and would recommend the shoe to other heel strikers, just bear in mind my comments about the lacing if you're not already an Adidas wearer.
