Mavic All-road Disc Wheelset

If you’re looking to mix up your road riding with some gravel and dirt roads but don’t want to break the bank, the Mavic Allroad disc wheelset is an excellent option. This might be an entry-level product for the French wheelmakers, but that’s not to say aren’t a quality product. As you’d expect from a company as experienced in the art of wheel building as Mavic, this is a well a thought out wheel that’ll meet expectations and offer value for money.

Built For Adventures

We know that the modern cyclist doesn’t want to confine themselves to one type of terrain, which is why the Allroad has been built with the clear purpose of adventure riding. With this set of hoops on your bike you can be confident when tackling imperfect road surfaces, as well as gravel and dirt tracks. The S6000 aluminium rim is tough and sturdy and uses a sleeve joint to ensure that maximum value is on offer.

Bigger And Wider

Boasting a 22mm-wide rim,  the Allroad is capable of handling a massive 64mm-wide tyre. That being said, it’s probably better suited to something more in the gravel range of 40mm wide, which is still more than enough tyre for almost anything you can throw at it. Given this is an all-purpose wheel, if you’re primarily riding the road it’ll also comfortably take a tyre as narrow as 28mm.

Tube What?

These wheels, for all occasions, use Mavic’s UST Road Tubeless system. As the name suggests, this means they are tubeless wheels. There’s a number of benefits to this. Riding your wheels tubeless reduces rolling resistance, which makes for a faster wheel, and you can run your tyres at lower pressures.

Gone are the days when tyres were pumped up to the maximum-allowable pressure, today’s it all about going low. With a lower pressure in your tyre you’ll notice a smoother and more comfortable ride, particularly over rougher surfaces. With less pressure in the tyres they’ll be able deform around bumps in the road more easily, which makes for a faster ride when the surface isn’t washboard smooth. Lastly, lower pressures reduce the chances of pinch punctures. Of course, tubeless also means that if you do puncture, you should be able to keep riding.

The Hub Of It All

Driving the wheel is a notably smooth, aluminium hub, which uses Mavic’s Instant Drive 360 freewheel technology. The freehub body has been designed to be light and offer fast engagement. The quick engagement means that as soon as your put the power down, the hub springs into action. A large rubber seal has been used to offer low friction and improve water sealing so it can handle all conditions.
