700 X 25c - great winter & training tyre

5

All the pot holes, gravel left over from the ice/snow coverage, glass, nails- these tyres eat them for breakfast.

Although at the heavy end of the scale, the Durano Plus tyres work well in tough conditions and still don't feel like a boat anchor on your beloved road bike. The 700x25c tyres that I have stretch quite a bit and verge on being a 27c. Not that I mind, makes the ride more comfortable. Durability is unquestionable, 2000km and no real wear to speak of . There are a few small cuts, but nothing gets past the blue belt.

If you live in an area with tonnes of glass, or are haunted by thorns, the Durano Plus is a great answer. Yes they're a bit hefty, but the way I see it, it's good training for your legs and I'd rather be riding than changing a tube.

An Excellent Trainer

The Durano Plus is marketed as a super flat resistant, durable training tire. For the most part the Durano Plus hits its mark well. The wear is not the 10,000k that Schwalbe claims, but it will go 5000-7000k before flattening out and compromising performance; but, even with the flattened tread it will still go another 2000-3000k before being completely useless.

The tires are insanely flat resistant, but they are not quite as flat proof as the Schwalbe Marathon Plus, which really is flat proof. Wet road traction is moderately good, weight is reasonable considering the resistance to flats and durability. My personal preference is the Marathon Plus to sacrifice weight and ride quality for unparalleled flat protection and long life.

If you want a tire with long life that is not too heavy, has reasonably good traction, and great flat resistance the Durano Plus is the clear winner.

The toughest tyre available that won’t turn your road bike into a tank

The Durano Plus has a belt of protective Smartguard rubber under the tread, as used in Schwalbe’s virtually impregnable Marathon Plus touring tyre. This is why the tyre is so heavy, why it’s such a pig to fit (we had to use toe-straps to grapple it on), and also why it shrugs off sharps like a solid rubber ball.

The sidewalls are pretty hard to cut too. You’d expect a tyre with this level of imperviousness to roll dismally slowly or scrabble for grip like a solid tyre. Not so. In our tests it was mid-pack. Our experiences with Marathon Pluses suggest its mileage should be excellent too.

reliability!

Great for long solo rides where you don't care about speed. I have had 2 pairs of these and never had a puncture (3000km done). The type of tyres where you happily leave your pump and tube behind.

Awesome tyre

I have trained on these and couriered on them...awesome puncture resistance and not slow rolling like an armadillo or a conti gator hardshell. I ride them at around 95-100 psi for a bit more grip.

Durable but not fast....

Definitely a great tyre when you're worried about punctures, or if you're heading out for a long ride. I have to say though, I've lost at least 2-4kph on my average since replacing my Dunlops with the Schwalbes. Maybe I just need to work my legs harder :-/
