very nice tyre when commuting. my previous tyre was too weak to commute everyday, but this seems to enable me to drive more than three thousand miles.
I purchased two of these and fitted one to each to our carbon road bike rear wheels. A bit tricky to get on even with good lever, grip less than the Schwalbes we had on. After starting our first ride, six miles in and a crack and bang! The sheep nearby ran for their lives and my wife was convinced we were being fired on by someone. Burst tube! Replaced and she returned home. Got home inflated to working pressure and put bikes away. Next week go to get bike and tube has burst again. Tyre side wall fault, beading exposed and cause of bursts. Sending back faulty, hope they replace my two tubes too. Beware and check these carefully.
Very little gets through these tyres - I've been using them for years on my winter bike and have had very few punctures. They're hard-wearing, too, and grip well in the wet.
I bought these tyres on a reccomendation from a friend, as I was after some winter tyres, And I have not be disappointed, theyre extremely grippy. And disperse the water (and snow!!!) efficiently... Follow that up with a great price, and it all adds up to a fantastic deal
Have used these for two rides so far (about 90 miles). They ride well - the last time i bought winter tyres (years ago!) they made the going quite tough! Both rides have included fair amounts of country lanes strewn with natural puncture causing debris. No flints stuck in them and they seem pretty unblemished. Going by all the reviews out there, they should provide me with good service in the months to come.
I've been using these tyres for more than 12-years & have found them to be the best all-round option that I've ever used. The original ones were good and offered reliability combined with more speed than anything similar. I've recently got a set of the most recent version & the quality seems the same, with the tread made "prettier". I still use a set that are about 10 years old & have only ever had to change due to wearing down to the fabric. Punctures have been rare & I feel they're good for everything except serious racing; enjoy them!
I bought these continental Gator skins on the back of four winter punctures in three weeks. I cycle approx 500 miles per month. The flints, gravel and farmers off cuts from cutting hedgerows had taken their toll both on my rubber, and me. So I invested in what my cycling mates keep telling me are the best tyres for the winter. It's early days yet, but four weeks on and 586 miles in the bag, no 'P' words have occurred. They do not appear to roll any slower and I am gaining confidence in their grip. To date - liking very much - and my hands have remained inside my warm winter gloves and not peeling rubber of the rims.
I have been using these tyres for over 4 years now. Commuting, training, sportives and longish rides out with mates. Not sure how many 1000s of miles I have done but only had 2 punctures, both on hawthorn spikes from freshly cut hedge detritus. Some glass gets absorbed but doesn't work through. Pick it out and superglue the cuts back up. They are pretty quick rolling, certainly an improvement on the Kendas that came with the bike. If you are used to race tyres you might think otherwise. They are a great compromise tyre. Fantastic protection without paying too much of a weight/resistance penalty.
Continental Gatorskins rock! Current pair have lasted over 3000 kms on Scottish Highland roads. Light enough and bombproof.
Very nice tire. Have a set that is holding up better than anything I have used before. I had I minor setback. Ran over a piece of plastic car tail light that was very jagged & would have flattened anything. This was no exception. It put about a 1/2 in slash in the sidewall of the rear tire. I simply took a heavy needle and some 10lb fishing line, and laced it up. I moved this tire to the front and at this time have over 500 miles on it since the accident. I find this somewhat remarkable. I do have another (tire) on standby in case this doesn't work out,,, but so far so good. BTW, also has good to very good grip, & very low rolling resistance.
Most durable tire I've tried on with only 1 flat in over 1500 miles on my current set. Wear indicator tells you when to change your tires. Tried Schwable Ultremo ZX HD and Michelin Pro Service 4 and both didn't last very long, very low rolling resistance but you pay for it as it cuts easily so you'll have to replace often. Gatorskins you just put on and forget about it, just check the wear indicators once a month.
If you want to ride short wheelbase frames - handy for doing u-turns in one lane to go back for tools and money you spot while commuting - the 28 mm have a narrow enough section to fit under the fork crown or seatstay and last a long, long time with handling that suits a better road frame. I've never worn thru the tread strip, they die when the casing ruptures where the metal bead attaches; which may not happen with kevlar beads.
Of all the $40 tires that I've used (Vittoria, Bontrager, Maxxis), none compare to the Gatorskins. The first ride out on these I noticed an extreme decrease in rolling resistance. (I had the 23mm on the front tire, and the 25mm on the back) Like it was VERY noticeable.
PROS: Durability, Speed, Weight, Overall performance
CONS: Harder rubber that makes for a Less "Grippy" feel in my opinion.
...don't worry about these possibly being to heavy. I routinely win uphill group sprints with them, and I flat much less often. They roll just fine.
The Continental Gatorskin is bar far the most durable tire for the price. I have had only two punctures over the past two seasons using these tires (multiple sets). They have survived glass, thorns, metal and rocks that other tires would have failed going over. The best thing about these tires is that the sidewalls are durable.

Been riding these since I got my bike. They're great on city streets and the price isn't too steep.
The 25's are a great mix of comfort and flat protection.
I'm sure I'm going to jinx myself by boasting that I've only had two flats in 3 seasons of riding on these tires, but its the truth. The majority of my rides are on chip-seal roads and the 25mm tires allow me to run a slightly lower pressure for a more comfortable ride and the durability of the tires has kept me on the bike peddling as opposed to on the side of the road pumping. PBK has the best prices on these tires anywhere that I've seen - I'll continue to purchase them for as long as they are available here.
Here in Canada prices on everything bike-related are far too high. PBK's prices are great for things like tires, tubes, and other accessories, even groupsets.
I bought these tires in 25mm for commuting use, and they have performed incredibly well on busy streets, rough roads, and through shards of glass. The tread wears very well (4000km so far and nothing concerning) and the sidewalls are tough. Theyre so tough, in fact, that the ride is a bit harsh compared to more supple tires like the GP4000S due to the sidewall stiffness. Minor problem though.
The fact that its made in Germany as opposed to other manufacturing countries with suspect quality control is even more reason to get these.
One of the best products going around. Faultless training tyre. Vectran in tread and sidewall makes them almost impossible to destroy. Rubber compound last well and even tolerates ergo trainer chewing them up and bead is not so tight that you spend all day trying to get them on larger rims
