Shimano M324 SPD/Flat Pedals

5

These pedals are excellent for both out on and off road or for what I use them for, a statioanry spin bike. Easy to clip in and out and with the flat part you don't have to worry about getting a purchase on the pedals when that all important thrust is needed to pump through a tough section. Ideal for mountain biking on the trails when you might need to put your foot down. Add some straps as an option and the rat traps allow anyone to use them. Great value for money and highly recommended for off road, casual and stationary cycling.

Great Value

I was surprised by the quality and finish on these pedals for the price. These are a great value for those of us who feel more comfortable being able to choose whether to be clipped in on more technical areas.

Quality Pedal!!

If your looking for a pedal that will allow you to clip in and ride 50 miles and then turn around the next day and ride 4-5 miles with any style shoe by just flipping the pedal over, this is the pedal!! My wife and I will typically clip in for 30-50 miles on the weekends but during the week we ride with two groups for short distances. These pedals allows you to choose between clipping in with biking shoes or wear any shoe you like. We urban ride a few times a month and you stop a lot, during these rides we just wear tennis shoes and flip our pedals over. This is a SPD Pedal BUY THESE YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED!

Solid pedal

A solid pedal for those looking for a first SPD pedal and giving the option of a flat side for those nervous about riding the whole way clipped in. Would give 5 out of 5 if they were lighter.

Shimano M324 pedals

Good quality pedal ideal for someone learning to use SPD's or who wants to use SPD's and also flats without changing pedals. Put them on my spare bike so my son can use it as he doesn't like SPD's and i can go to the pub wearing normal trainers. Well worth the money and not that heavy regardless of what people say.

Shimano combination pedals

To clip in or not to clip in......that is the question????? I would definitely recommend these pedals for those new to the clipping in experience. These combination pedals offer those of us a bit anxious about the whole clipping in experience.. The best of both worlds...they are extremely easy to adjust....even for this novice! and more importantly easy to get out of in a hurry if they are set to the loosest setting...cycling in traffic is made easier with the option of not clipping in on whatever side you normally dismount, making that experience not a nerve wrecking one. Best of both worlds

I normally run SPD-SLs on my road bike, while my Hardrock MTB has made do with the pedals that initially came with it. I wanted to use this bike for both trails and heading to the shops, and not wanting to have to walk around with SPD cleats (even though they are easier than SPD-SLs!) when doing a few messages kept the original pedals. However being flat on one side and taking cleats on the other, the M324s allow me to use the bike without having to worry about what is on my feet. They allow plenty of float and quick clicking out when on the more technical, twisty and narrow parts of the trail. They would also be very useful for those who struggle to clip in and out under pressure, particularly at traffic lights- if stuck the rider can just flip over the pedal and cycle on until they can get the time and space to get clipped in. They would also be useful if part of your route involves stopping and starting-you could use the flat part for that bit of your journey before clipping in for the longer, straighter parts. These aren't light but when weight isn't a big issue (and let's be honest, if you are going to fit these, Alpe d'Huez or the Ventoux aren't part of your normal cycle route!) and they are sturdy. I fully recommend them if they suit your needs.

Good - but weighty

3

Bought a pair of these for use with my Reynolds 531 winter bike.. I concur exactly with the comments made by a previous reviewer. Yes, I was sick of using "el-cheapo" bog-standard, bike pedals (which soon go rough, grind, and need to be binned.) By comparison, these all-metal pedals are smooth, well-made, (genuine Shimano!) - and dual purpose: 1. Allows me to use proper SPD shoes, when out on a winter ride - but 2. Allows "a quick spin" wearing ordinary shoes. But..be aware that they are substantially heavier than say my A-520's. Also, they are prone to surface rust appearing on the cage around the bolts, so keep these surfaces clean with an occasional wipe of WD40/GT85 etc.
