Fantastic performance/value ratio

I have used Shimano's PD-R540 SPD SL sport pedals (330g) for a long time, and always thought they were more than enough for what I needed. I've since discovered a whole other sense of stability and power transfer after stumping for the 5700 105 pedals (325g).

The more solid body and wider, chunkier platform offers much more support and stability than the entry-level R540s. Easy to install and adjust, these also come complete with Shimano's yellow (6° float) cleats.

Considering you'll pay around AUD40 just for a pair of cleats at your LBS, around AUD80 for these 105 pedals (including cleats) means it really is a no-brainer.

Pro feel at a not so pro price

5

Bought these pedals as an entry-level cyclist since the other shimano pedals are much more expensive. I have had no problems and I don't really see myself investing in more expensive pedals for a while. PBK shipping was pretty fast. The pedals come with all the screws and washers needed along with the cleats. The pedals also look pretty sweet in black.

Nothing better suited for your training bike

4

I have many thousands of miles on these with no problems. There is a slight play on both spindles, but it hasn't progressed and you cannot feel it while riding. In my experience, some play is inevitable on pretty much all pedals. They've been abused and crashed on, but still going strong. My philosophy is to have bombproof pedals since they usually take the most beating of anything on the bike (running into steps, catch a corner in a crit, crashes). I'll readily admit that they are very heavy, but really I think it's a nice balance point between durability and weight. They are certainly race worthy, but best used for training. These will not let you down when out training in the middle of nowhere.

great pedals for a lot less than dura ace

5

These pedals are heavier than the Ultegra and Dura Ace models, but not by much. They still offer a secure platform and I find that they are easy to clip in and out of.

Good all around pedal

I've always preferred the wider platform and though I started with Look, I soon found the Shimano's much more walk-able cleat, preferable. Plus so many choices in the price range.

I picked this because of the reasonable price and it looks good. It's been a solid performer, works as expected. My only gripe would be that it is a bit heavy, but hey, if you don't want to pay super premium prices, and you're not a racer, this is hard to beat. It does feel more solid than the even cheaper pedal down from Shimano's line. Worth the extra cost.

These are great pedals. Only slightly heavier than Ultegra. The price for these is excellent.

Shimano 105 pedals = true value

5

I have three bikes, all with these pedals, and I will not buy any others.
I have run Look and Dura Ace, but do not consider the advantages great enough to go past these 105s - highly recommended for the price, relaible and functional.

Great pedals

4

Great set of pedals for beginners and those looking to get into racing. These pedals have a nice wide platform and is easily serviceable should the need arise. Comes with a set of cleats with float. They last for a while granted you don't do a lot of walking with them. Not much heavier than the Ultegra version with a much cheaper price tag. Looks great and they are easy to clip in and out with a nice audible click to know you're securely locked into place.

Best pedals for your money

The 105 pedals are an excellent set of pedals from a beginner to entry racing. Has a nice wide platform thats easy to clip in and out. Nice audible click and you know you're locked in. Easy to adjust the tension to clip out. Comes with cleats that should last a while granted you dont do a lot of walking in them.
