Failures around the stems

3

Nice tubes, but 2 out 3 failed at the base of the stems. Repair nicely and easily with with cut piece of latex tube, but they will eventually fail at the stems. Hate tossing a nice latex tube in the trash because they can't glue the stems in securely. Going michelin

good but can be fragile

I've tried two or three of these latex tubes before, and I generally like them. I had one blow up in my wheel while I was pumping it up, leading me to be much more careful when installing them to make sure they're evenly distributed, not twisted or kinked, or anything else like that. In fact, when I install a latex tube after that one incident I'll pump it up to maybe half the normal pressure, then let the air out again, and then pump it up to full. This gives it a chance to redistribute itself more evenly around the wheel so that when I pump it up it's not overly stressed in one part. What I really liked about the latex tubes is how they felt. The traditional black rubber that tubes are made from seems to absorb more energy as it deforms where the contact patch is of the tire on the road. The latex tube seems not to absorb as much energy. It seems closer to an ideal elastic than the traditional butyl rubber compounds. The only way I can describe how this feels is "lighter" in rolling. Not sure if I described this well, but that's how they feel to me. I'd use them again. I do think the latex tubes seem to age worse than the normal tubes. Leave a latex tube out in the garage for a few months and you can definitely see it. If you go through tubes fairly often I'm not sure if this has to be much of a factor though.

valve stems...

I ordered 4 of these 2 months ago. So far I've gone through 2 and not for the reason you think...the valve stem break off. Never in my life have a I had a tire or tube do that before, and it's happened twice with these things. Very annoying problem.

Excellent Tubes

Used in conjunction with Continental GP4000 25 tyres this combination is exceptional and has transformed already good wheels into something even better - more responsive and faster.

Latex inner tubes

These are considered an old skool wives tale ! and somewhat of an unecessary luxury ! I dont think so, they give added puncture protection, very little weight and well made. Yes they do slowly lose air as Latex is porous, but not sufficient to need tending to during day long rides/races. Yes they are more comfortable especially with a high tpi handmade tyre, yes they do lose air a little, but if you check your tyres before you ride its not a problem. ps. if you run tyre sealant these also have removeable valve cores.

Having used the Vittoria latex inner tubes for awhile, I've come to the conclusion that the Vittoria latex inner tubes are just a bit better at holding air than the Michelin latex inner tubes that I was previously using. Perhaps this is a small distinction, but I confess that having to use 2-3 fewer pump strokes each time I inflate the tires, is appreciated. I also like the Vittoria's valves better, as they seem to present fewer problems. Overall, the Vittoria latex inner tubes seem to be a better quality product.

Excellent product!

I was curious to try latex tubes given the lighter weight and the promise of better ride quality compared to butyl tubes, but was slightly concerned about latex's (web) reported fragility. I needn't be concerned at all. I've ridden 3000 km on the road in all sorts of conditions, including gravel roads and roads littered with debris, and haven't experienced a single flat, despite my rear tire being down almost to the cord. The ride quality is somewhat smoother than with butyl and the slight decrease in weight makes the bit feel a bit livelier as well. Additionally, experienced cyclists argue that latex is even more resistant to pinch flats and, since it is flexier than butyl, tends to deform and resist punctures better too. That seems to be my experience, having removed sharp debris from my tires' tread and having experienced no flats whatsoever. I'm definitely a convert! If you take care of installing the tubes properly with clean tires and rims, and adjust pressures for every ride, I see only upsides to using them!

Vittoria Latex Road Inner Tube - Presta 51mm

I like latex inner tubes in general, and these Vitoria latex inner tubes are a much appreciated compliment to my current wheels. I like the fact that the Vittoria product comes in two sizes - I use the larger size in the rear tire, and the smaller size in the front tire. I also appreciate the reddish color, as it makes it easy to see if a cut has gone through the casing. The 51mm valves are just long enough for my wheels and pump head.

One word: Wow!

It's hard to get excited about inner tubes, right? That's what I thought before I tried these latex tubes. However, the huge difference in ride quality compared to butyl tubes blew me away. It's night and day. Outstandingly smooth and secure. Never would I have guessed that an inner tube could make such a difference.

They make a difference

I changed to these tubes when i installed my Ultegra Wheelset. Definitely rides better with the same Michelin Pro4 Endurance 25mm - feels like there is 15psi less in tires at same pressure 75-80psi No problems mounting, just used instructions off Velo News Feels faster, but also changed wheelset at same time.
