I got a 105 11sp groupset from a mate when he bought a new bike but upgraded to Di2. His Cannondale crank was the wrong size so needed this to complete my upgrade. Great price and absolutely does the job.
Upgraded from FSA Gossamer, after crank arm fell off. Old one was compact, but I went with the 105 semi due to cheaper price. Couldn't be happier. Paired with an 11-32 cassette, the semi-compact can do everything the compact could, but a little faster. I would venture to say it will even make you a stronger rider. Quality-wise, it is great. Easy install, no noticeable flex, quiet, nice looking, overall a great crankset.
Replaced my 105 10-Speed 5600 Crankset and WOW!! The change between big and small rings works great, it is almost magical. You have to wonder how much better it could get with an upmarket groupset, could not be much better really . Very happy with my gears now - With the Semi-Compact rings, I can get up hills, and power down them!! I wish this ratio was available 20 years ago.
I'm going to give a brief summary of this crankset. My bike Specialized Roubaix came with a compact crank set 50-34. Where I live Atlanta Ga metro area, terrain goes from rolling hills to just plain widow makers. With the 50-34 and a 11-32 cassette, hills were conquered fairly easy. However on the flats, I was constantly shifting to find that just right gear combination. The 52-36 aleiviated this as I can now find that happy spot. I can maintain a cadence of 80-90 without difficulty, and not spin out having to constantly hunt for a smooth combination. The 52 ring gives me the speed and distance covered per revolution I was seeking. The 36 also give more speed, and the gear allows me to climb any hill that I have the ability to conquer. It shifts clean, smooth and quietly. I'm running shimano 105 11sp components. They all sync up nicely. I'm 6'2" and weight 215lbs. 54 yrs old and ride approx 250 miles a month. I'm by no mean a racer, but I love to do organized rides. I also want to say that trim to prevent chain rub is no problem. Even doing the forbidden large large combination. I and running the GS derailleur in the rear with a 11-32 cassette. Probike provided quick trouble free shipping and the price was very good. I hope this review helps anyone thinking of trying this crankset. I believe you will be happy with your purchase.. S.H.
I just received this item from PBK a week or so ago and have used the semi compact crank now on 3 rides. The 36 tooth chain ring made the Thursday Night Hill Ride a little easier as I was able to spin up the climb a bit faster in comparison to when using a 39 tooth chain ring. So far I have been very happy with this product, it looks great and the price was right.
