Garmin Edge 500
4Garmin Edge 500 GPS Cycle Computer fulfilled my expectations. It is great to see -whilst riding- a computer with all the data, and monitoring your performance.

4Great functions and lots of different screens to view lots of information. Just check the size so it fits on your bike its a bout 7cm x4.8cm. I have it mounted on the new aero profile bottle.

4Love all the functions and options of different screens. I use 5 lots of information on one screen and you can read them all well. Only problem with this could be the size of it as it may not fit easily on all bikes. I have mine attached to the end of my new profile design aero drink bottle cage which works well. The diamensions of the computer are 7cm x 4.8cm.

5This a great product in a small, lightweight package. Three pages of data (choose from over 40 fields) with up to eight lots of data per page. Great online and offline collation through Garmin connect and Garmin training center. Can upload straight to other online sources such as Strava. Rechargeable battery lasts for ages on one charge. Definitely recommend!

This unit almost installed and programmed itself compared to others I use. For as many features as this has, it was relatively easy to enter initial data and sync to the speed and cadence sensors (I use Ant+ sensors from my VDO Z3 cycle computer and use both the Edge 500 and VDO Z3 on my road bike). The unit is easy to use and is extremely versatile, having three screens with several data items per screen. Date uploads through USB quickly to several programs. I use Garmin Training Center, Garmin Connect, Strava, and Ridewithgps to analyze various aspects and perform comparisons). Battery charge is satisfactory. While downloading my data after each ride through the USB cord, it tops off the battery to 100% while I'm analyzing the data. My rides are usually 3-4 hours long. I rarely use the charge block to charge from house voltage. I have problems reading the screen compared to other cycle computers because the clear lens is flat and tends to reflect glare. The VDO Z3 lens is curved, which makes viewing easier. I didn't downgrade it to a 3 because the LCD display contrast is user-adjustable and the number of items on the screen can be reduced to allow large font size for data. I have had no dependability issues, nor have any of my fellow riders who use the 500. Sync speed with satellites on power up seems to be reasonably quick.
Great product, poor back up service from PBK

This is a first rate product. It is easily programable to suit individual needs. Being able to select up to 3 bikes is a useful feature.
However, when the unit was about three months old, the heart rate strap started to come apart. Rather than go through the delay of sending the strap back, I bought a new one. The heart rate was showing unusual readings, I queried this with PBK and again felt it would be easier to buy another one , which I did.
Now the start/stop button on the computer is not responding. The unit is only 8 months old, so I have sent three emails to PBK requesting information on the warranty, with no response.
POOR SERVICE PBK!
Good Computer

This is a great GPS computer, came with two bike mounts which are easy swap between bikes.
Build quality is good.
It comes with charging plugs for most countries in the world, except the Australian style. Its dual voltage so I just grabbed an adapter and I can charge it via USB or off my iPhone charging brick (not sure if this is recommended by Garmin)
Everything you could want, and then some
4This computer has everything (or at least the potential to have everything if you shell out the money for ANT+ attachments). If anything, there is too much information for the average cyclist, but if you can have it, why not get it? The 500 loses a point for the cost, since it is a bit steep considering that it has no mapping function like the 305 had. The latest firmware (2.8) seems stable thus far.

Garmin's new bike computer is a smart piece of kit. It works via GPS rather then from a magnet- tripped sensor and offers a massive amount of information.
".... you can customise the amount of data shown on the three different screens and display only the fields you want. Its all uploadable when you get home and you can store it on your Mac/PC and/or Garmin's website. Use this and it records a map of your route, your splits, and you get graphs, comparing speed, elevation, and, if you've taken it, your heart rate data. Clever, useful stuff yet simple to use.
