Excellent

Although the description says it will shift into a 28t max cog size, mine shifts perfectly into a 30t. In fact, it stated 30t as the max cog size on the packaging. That makes a great rear derailleur even better!

Shimano

Excwllwnt color, fits well, lightweight, ideal for road bicycle.

Good rear mech

Good value rear mech for the price and great when new. Shifts well when set up correctly. Doesn't seem to be as robust and last as long as Shimano 105 parts from the 1990's but then perhaps I'm being over-critical.

Reliable Shimano 105

I have used 105 & ultegra for a number of years now & find them both very reliable. I have only had to replace my rear 105 derailleur because of a crash. If you want crisp reliable shifting at a good price 105 is hard to beat!

why do you hesitate? it's shimano

Good Value

I use the 105 rear derailleur on my triathlon / time trial bike with Dura Ace bar end shifters. Previously, I was using an earlier generation Ultegra. Shifting is crisp and reasonably accurate; however, occasionally, it will not complete the upshift on one of the middle cogs. Because my bike has fully internal cabling, I assume that this is a result of cable friction and that I will have to purchase some special low friction cables to take care of this issue.

For the price difference between the 105 and the Ultegra, the 105 seems to be an excellent value.

Best Value

The point of diminishing returns happen at this groupset, the shifting is accurate and its easy to adjust.

Good derailleur, not great.

I have had two sets of these derailleurs. The shifting performance is good, but not perfect. It is easily adjustable to fine tune the shifting kinks. My issue with this derailleur is that it is not very durable. I've had one last 2,500 miles and another 3,000 miles. I have had both Tiagra and Ultegra derailleurs last me longer. In both cases, the bushings/bearings in the assembly that attaches to the hanger have worn out. When they wear out, the shifting performance and adjustability go down the drain. For my money, I'd jump up to the Ultegra. It has better shifting performance and lasts longer.

Good Reliable Derailleur

This derailleur provides quick, smooth shifting even when hammering the pedals. No skipping or crunching and instantaneous shifts which makes this derailleur a great choice.

Great value for a great component

Bought this to replace a beat up derailleur that had a few too many miles in it. Works beautifully, and at only a bit heavier than its Ultegra "big brother" it would be a worthy component in any Shimano drivetrain. Great also because as an amateur racer it's not only about what you can afford, but what you can afford to replace.
