The purchase of Tacx Galaxia Rollers

I purchased the Tacx Galaxia Rollers to use during my warm up before road and crit races. I purchased this product expecting it to be another simple and boring piece of cycling equipment. However, to my shock I found this product does not only look very professional but it also feels it too when training on it. It was very simple to put together and looks the part too. I have done some simple warm up rides on it and also some fast speed work sessions and this product has provided me with the perfect training and set up that I needed. It feels great and feels as if you are actually riding on the ride thanks to it's rocker system on the bottom which moves the rollers forwards and backwards when doing hard efforts. I am very very pleased with this product and I highly recommend anyone who is looking for a good, reliable and professional set of rollers to choose the Tacx Galaxia Rollers.

Tacx Galaxia Rollers

These rollers are perfect for my casual style of riding training on wet or high wind days. They generate a bit of noise but that's not an issue for me in my garage. The rocking back & forth motion gives a more natural free feeling of being on flat road. I like them.

Effective for keeping the legs spinning and honing your technique

I'm relatively new to road cycling and wanted an indoor trainer to help carry my summer enthusiasm through the wintery months. After some YouTube research I came across 'E-Motion' rollers that slid forwards/backwards with the bike; they looked great...Fortunately I found these Tacx Galaxia rollers that allow the same the same sliding motion but in a simpler (and much cheaper) package. I'm fairly handy with a screwdriver but assembly was painful. The pictorial instructions are vague and the system of adjusting for your wheelbase is laborious in reality this means sharing the rollers won't work unless the bikes are similarly sized. Once together though, everything felt sufficiently sturdy. The rollers do simply collapse for storage, although it's not a particularly slick process. I started out in a doorway with my saddle lowered but still underestimated the learning curve. After 10 minutes I managed to prise my hand from its death grip on the door frame. Within half an hour I had both hands on the bars, albeit with 110% concentration required. I gradually relaxed to the point that I could think about my cadence and confidently change gear. A couple of weeks later and I'm still not to the point where I can comfortably reach my water bottle or stand but I'm able to keep spinning for about half and hour without incident. There have been a couple of times when my front wheel has drifted off the front roller but fortunately I've stayed upright without drama. While I'm not particularly conscious of the sliding I can see the rollers moving and the feeling is very natural. I think the benefit is most apparent when standing so hopefully I'll be able to take more advantage of this soon. As I suspected the Galaxia Rollers don't slide well on carpet, however I use them in my garage where this isn't an issue. For the same reason noise wasn't a consideration for me, but they do whir a fair bit. I've been using my standard road tyres and have noticed that they get warm. I would think that the wear rate is lower than a turbo since there are two rollers sharing the rear load but a training tyre is probably still a good idea if you're going to be putting in a lot of time. An unexpected issue is static electricity build up. I have my rollers besides a stainless steel bench cabinet and I have to try and discharge the static before touching the bench. I don't know whether metal rollers would prevent this. Perhaps I need a tether to earth myself! I typically work my up and down through the cassette, staying in my 50 chainring during workouts. In my 50-12 the resistance level feels quite similar to that provided by a typical flat/false-flat at 30-40km/h. Since there's no way of modifying the resistance of the rollers they're not really suitable as a means of training for climbs. However a major benefit over a turbo is the extent to which you're using your core I've definitely noticed that my riding technique has become smoother back out on the road. Historically I've been slightly unsteady riding no-handed on my road bike but since using the rollers I can now cruise up moderate hills hands-free. In summary I'd say that the Galaxia Rollers are a clever response to other sliding rollers and good value in comparison. There's certainly scope for refinement and I can't say that they've endeared to the Tacx brand but as a training tool they're very effective. If you're planning to use them on carpet I'd probably look at non-sliding rollers or dig deep for the E-Motion rollers.
