About Xlab

Xlab was formed due to a unique combination of recognizing new racing needs and an obsession for speed. aerospace designer craig turner entered the bicycle industry after quitting corporate america and wanting to follow his passion. he had a passion for speed.

Saving been a senior design specialist for numerous military and commercial aircraft, and even rockets and racing yachts, he always wanted to make ‘vehicles’ go faster. being highly competitive, he did not want to get beaten on the hills by his training buddy, so he built super lightweight bikes under 13lbs in 1992. a feat not equaled in its day even by bike manufacturers.

Still dissatisfied, he started the first mail order triathlon business in america. fifteen years later after selling over 10,000 tri-bikes, designing bikes for large manufactures, setting numerous triathlon equipment trends and cycling 3,300 miles across the us, he decided to sell the mail order business and concentrate his efforts full time on the aerodynamic design of bicycle gear.

Innovating and trend setting have been roles in craig’s life. he also inspired candice to do a 500 mile bike ride at the age of 13 through the tough terrain of yellowstone and glacier national parks and the grueling icefield parkway.

An anti-launch that work!

Installed on a specialized Sitero saddle with the tri-pod. The bottle has never launched so far, even if it's full or empty. Good product!

At only 38g, definitely the 800-pound gorilla of bottle cages

Riding along even the best of road surfaces, I was used to watching the road surface like a hawk, always on the lookout for bumps and holes that would inevitably launch my water bidon missiles into the air. This was followed by the embarrassment of having to pull over safely to collect them and then being dropped from the group, all the while hoping that everyone behind me navigated through the 750ml obstacles safely. A little unsure where the hominid reference came from, I purchased two of these Gorilla bottle cages and tested them out during some 150+km rides on a dual-mount bracket attached to the rear of my saddle. Suffice to say, now I get it. These things envelope and grip like a gorilla on heat. After 4 weeks of testing, and despite hitting a pothole that flattened my front tyre, not once did my bidons eject from their gorilla-like grasp. And yet surprisingly, the carbon “arms” were flexible enough to allow the bidons to be inserted and removed while on the go. Sure they’re not cheap, but if you like the idea of your water bottles staying within reach and not sliding along the road into oncoming traffic or pursuing riders, then you’d better stop making a monkey of yourself and go and get yourself a Gorilla or two.

Not the Gorilla's I expected

Nice looking product. However, 1. Having bough both the XLAB Carbon Wing and their Gorilla bottle cages, neither came with the nylon lock nuts needed to secure the cages to the Carbon Wing? 2. 5mins into my first with the both fitted to my TT bike, I almost lost my Camelback water bottle, as it had worked itself halfway out of the cage. I had to push it back into the cage ever 10mins for the rest of the ride. So rather disappointed in this experience. Rgds, Hooperman.

Awesome bottle cages

These are the best bottle cages available if you don't want to lose a bottle off the back of your bike. It grips the bottle with enough force that you won't lose anything and that it is still easy to remove the bottle from behind your saddle whilst riding. Highly recommend!

Not good

In combination with Xlab"s Super Wing rear hydration system it still launched my bottles. Replaced the cages with their XT version but now my bottles are super tight in there that it's very difficult to take out and insert the bottles while riding. Looking for and alternative still.

xlab gorilla

Does exactly what it says on the tin. The bottles very stable in these cages- excellent.
