Just in now, seasoned Spanish all rounder Alberto Contador has withdrawn from this year’s Tour de France after a nasty crash on stage 10. The trend in drop-outs continues this year as Tinkoff Saxo’s Alberto Contador was forced to abandon the race after he was sidelined and treated by medical staff. Alberto-Contador-659x440

After his return to the stage his time difference to the leader Astana’s Nibali rose above four minutes. Struggling and mentally broken, Alberto Contador decided to abandon the race today. There was 80 kilometres left of stage 10 at the point the Spaniard dropped out, and he joins Froome and Cavendish in outed riders in what is turning out to be a brutal tour. The crash itself was ahead of the Col du Platzerwase ascent, and with the breakaway attacking, the decision to leave was understandable.
