With the April showers staying away from Northern England lately I am delighted to say that haven’t had to use this jacket yet, but I’m sure it will be called for soon (especially on the day I leave home without it). It’s not often we get to go riding here without a waterproof, but before I get carried away, there has been fresh wind that has reminded us that spring isn’t mid summer!
With a range of Sportful clothing arriving here and being added to the site as we speak, this jacket at UK £94.50 looks like a really useful piece of kit. As I said, I can’t comment on its waterproofness, but the fabric feels soft, flexible and as waterproof as any other jacket I’ve used and I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but I’m looking forward to using it for real!
What makes this jacket stand out is in it’s details:
- Fully waterproof zip.
- Reflective collar.
- Taped seams.
- Neat back pocket..
- Vents which shouldn’t let rain in.
- Reflective and adjustable sleeves.
The labels say: minimal weight and minimal bulk but total rain protection. A fully waterproof jacket that meets Hot Pack requirements for light weight and packability. We use Scholeller fabric with 20,000mm water column waterproofness and built into a jacket that weights just 171g and fits easily into a pocket.
It will definitely pack into a jersey pocket and the vents under the arms should keep you cool on climbs while keeping the rain out. One of the things that often lets similar jackets down are the seams. If a jacket doesn’t have fully taped seams, then it isn’t going to be waterproof. We give this a preliminary thumbs up and because the rest of the Sportful products are of excellent quality, we’re confident this one will be a great addition to your ever growing wardrobe.
