Last year’s Tour de France champion is now out of the tournament after crashing twice on the cobbles of stage 5.

The British Team Sky cyclist Chris Froome suffered a series of falls today in stage 5 after his big crash yesterday in stage 4. The first slip didn’t shake up the all-rounder, as he managed to hop back on the bike and soldier on. After a second blow however, Froome has pulled out a battered and bruised man.

After the initial demoralisation of Mark Cavendish’s exit in stage one, the absence of Chris Froome leaves a lot of Brits shocked and disappointed that our top riders are out.

Froome was just a mere two seconds behind race leader Vincenzo Nibali, so this will come as a big blow to Team Sky.

Check back tomorrow for the full stage 5 race report and more information on Chris Froome from Team Sky.
