The Zipp 808 altered perceptions of deep-section wheels. Initially, the 82mm deep profile only appeared in time trials and triathlons. 808's light weight, responsiveness and great handling are perfect for hilly bike legs, criteriums, field sprints and at the front of the peloton.

At just 27.5mm wide, this wheel is the fastest front wheel that Zipp have ever tested. It's 15 seconds faster than before over 40km to equal or exceed the performance of any 90mm deep rim on the market and a lot of discs. In high wind angles, the 808 has a huge advantage as it's incredibly stable.

This wheel provides the speed of a more deeper rim, with the handling of a much shallower wheel. Its wider profile improves lateral stiffness for improved power transfer and acceleration, along with increased comfort and impact resistance over its predecessor. - A.D.

Key Features:

  • With its wider profile, the latest 808 Firecrest Tubular shows improved lateral stiffness for efficient power transfer and crisp acceleration, yet offers greater comfort and impact resistance than its predecessor.
  • Firecrest rims have a near-constant width from brake track to spoke bed to improve aerodynamics and better control airflow. The rim shape improves stability by moving the wheel's centre of pressure to sit almost directly over the steering axis, where wind-produced steering torque has a minimal effect.
  • ABLC dimpling ensures that the rim moves through the wind with the ease of a shark through water.
  • Carbon Bridge improves the stiffness and impact resistance of the wheels with the introduction of Kevlar in the wheel construction.
  • VCLC (Visco-Elastic Constrained Layer Control) technology absorbs the vibrations from the road, helping the wheel hold the road and transfer power.
  • The wheel uses Zipp's legendary 188 hub, it uses the most accurate Swiss steel bearings available.
  • Rim Depth: 82mm.
  • Spokes: 20 Sapim CX-Ray with external nipples.
  • Max recommended rider weight: 250lbs (Manufacturer claimed).
  • Weight: 840g (manufactures claimed).
  • Supplied With: Skewer, valve extension.
  • Compatible with cassettes up to and including 11-speed.

fast aero wheel

I've only ridden on the 808 firecrest wheel a couple times since taking delivery and it feels superfast. I can't wait to try it out in an upcoming 70.3. And being a tubular wheel I really like how it rolls. I didn't notice any issue with getting buffeted around by the wind and it was a particularly windy day when I went riding. Though in saying that, I was riding a 404 up front.
